General Field: Immunology

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Research Fellow

Country of Origin: Venezuela

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Maryland

Approval Notice Date: September 25th, 2019

Processing Time: 15 months, 5 days

Case Summary:

A Venezuelan Research Fellow hired North America Immigration Law Group (WeGreened.com) to file an EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) for him. Although it took the USCIS more than a year to grant the approval, we were confident that our personalized petition and our client’s extensive credentials would ultimately bring about an approval.

Our client is an expert in the field of immunology and his research is of great importance because of its relevance to the achievement of immune tolerance following organ transplantation, a significant challenge in the medical field owing to the difficulty of combating the immune system’s tendency to reject donated organs.

His research has resulted in 5 peer-reviewed journal articles, 1 book, and 1 book chapter. Moreover, these papers have been published in the top journals in the field, which reflects his peers’ recognition of the value of his research. Our client is also active in the scientific community as a peer reviewer for highly acclaimed journals.

At the time we submitted the petition, his publications have collected 31 citations and many of the papers have in fact been among the most-cited in the field. He had also conducted more than 10 reviews, which further demonstrated his important standing in the field.

In a bid to further fortify the petition, our client reached out to his peers and distinguished researchers in the field for support. Six experts agreed to act as his recommenders and advocated for the approval of our client’s NIW petition by discussing the elements of his important research. For instance, this is what one of the recommenders noted in his letter of support: “The significance of his research lies in the uncovering of the mechanisms that underlie spontaneous split tolerance, which is of direct relevance to the development of novel treatment strategies to improve patient tolerance to transplanted organs…[Client]’s work in this research branch thus serves a valuable role in various US medical branches that are of prime benefit to the health of the American people.”

Despite the long wait, our client is finally one step closer to obtaining the green card. We congratulate him on his NIW win and thank him for choosing us to be part of his success story. As he filed the I-485 together with his I-140 (concurrent filing), we look forward to hearing the good news again in the near future!
