Success Stories: NIW Petition Approved for a Researcher from Turkey in the Field of Ecology with the Help of NAILG

Client’s Testimonial:

“Thank you so much for everything and all your support, I truly appreciate it!”

On March 13th, 2020, we received another NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Researcher in the Field of Ecology (Approval Notice).

General Field: Ecology

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Researcher

Country of Origin: Turkey

Country of Residence at the Time of Filing: Ireland

Approval Notice Date: March 13th, 2020

Processing Time: 10 months, 4 days

Case Summary:

A recent client of North America Immigration Law Group (NAILG) has been conducting cutting-edge studies that so far, have resulted in 11 peer-reviewed journal articles (8 of them first-authored, 1 of them co-first-authored) and 2 book chapters (both of them first-authored). Collectively, these publications had garnered 374 citations by the time we were ready to file her EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition. We also noted the 25 times our client judged the work of her peers.

Our client, a researcher from Turkey, researches on animal social behavior, communication, and cognition. We worked diligently to prove to the USCIS that it is in the country’s best interest to let her continue this research unhindered. We also demonstrated that her research in the area is of great importance because it focuses on how animals communicate and maintain social relationships, which are critical to the transfer of information and the success of the species. Additionally, her work provides critical insight into animal cognition, which investigates how animals learn, remember, and make decisions. This point was also underscored by a prominent researcher who specializes in ecology. He signed a recommendation letter in support of our client’s research, and this is one of the observations he made: “The study of animal behavior is critical to the success of conservation efforts because learning about how animals learn and make decisions is key to designing conservation strategies that are tuned to a particular species or ecosystem. Knowledge of animal behavior is also important for understanding human cognition and evolution. Thus, [client’s] research in animal behavior advances an essential scientific endeavor.” This professor was joined by several other experts in the field, all of whom contributed recommendation letters advocating for the approval of our client’s NIW petition.

By providing the USCIS ample documents in support of the meritorious nature of our client’s work, we convinced them that our client should receive the national interest waiver. Although it took longer than expected, we are nonetheless pleased that our client obtained NIW approval. We congratulate her on this win and thank her for retaining us for her IVP outside the US.
