Success Stories: NIW Status Confirmed for an Assistant Professor in Materials Science from Mexico, Credit to Our Team of Experts

Client’s Testimonial:

“I am very grateful for all the support provided and for preparing such an excellent case.”

On April 22nd, 2022, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for an Assistant Professor in the Field of Materials Science (Approval Notice).

General Field: Materials Science

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Assistant Professor

Country of Origin: Mexico

Country of Residence at the Time of Filing: Mexico

Approval Notice Date: April 22nd, 2022

Processing Time: 3 months

Case Summary:

Our I-140 NIW (National Interest Waiver) client from Mexico was an expert in the field of materials science, and her proposed endeavor was to work on advancing the understanding of multipolar resonance and delivering design principles for nanoparticles and plasmonic nanostructures that increase the energy conversion efficiency of hybrid plasmonic solar cells. She wanted to provide an inexpensive and non-toxic alternative to silicon solar cells and accelerate the adoption of renewable energy sources.

Thus, it was clear that her research is of great importance because it provides a competitively advantaged alternative to silicon-based photovoltaics, which provides the technical means to simultaneously reduce greenhouse gas emissions due to fossil fuel-related power generation and address the concerns around silicon-based photovoltaics related to hazardous waste.

At the same time, since the USCIS demands people applying to the NIW category to present proof of the importance of their work for the country, we used information from her academic and professional documents to show this. We found that her research has resulted in 3 peer-reviewed journal articles (2 of them first-authored) and 3 book chapters and these publications have been cited a total of 22 times according to Google Scholar. Her study has also been supported by funding from the Mexican National Council on Science and Technology (known as CONACYT), de Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, and the European Regional Development Fund. This further solidified the petition we were writing for her winning her the approval only 5 months later.

We thank our client for trusting us and also the 2 recommending experts who corroborated the facts of her petition. We are grateful to our client for choosing us and we wish her the best.
