On January 30th, 2020, we received another NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Ph.D. Student in the Field of Electrical Engineering (Approval Notice).

General Field: Electrical Engineering

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Ph.D. Student

Country of Origin: Iran

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: South Carolina

Approval Notice Date: January 30th, 2020

Processing Time: 13 months, 20 days

Case Summary:

A Ph.D. student from Iran hired North America Immigration Law Group (WeGreened.com) to file an EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition on his behalf. Our client, who has extensive experience in the field of electrical engineering, hired us because he knew that we would do everything we could to help him get one step closer to his green card. In preparing our client’s EB-2 NIW petition, we made sure that we had all the relevant paperwork that proved the value of his investigations to the United States. Here are some of the points that we highlighted in our presentation:

  • We noted his 11 peer-reviewed scientific articles and one article accepted for publication that had gathered 44 citations at the time of filing. Using these numbers, we established that various researchers are utilizing our client’s findings to progress the field of electrical engineering as a whole. We also noted the 30 times he judged the work of his peers.
  • Our client’s investigations on power electronics were also documented in his petition letter. We reviewed his findings and determined that his research in this area is of great importance because it facilitates the integration of cleaner and more renewable energy resources into existing electric infrastructure.
  • Our client reached out to several of his peers and asked them to sign recommendation letters. The six letters that he obtained were included in his EB-2 NIW petition packet and presented to the USCIS as evidence that he is an asset to the United States. According to one of our client’s recommenders: “This is significant because greenhouse gases are driving climate change, a phenomenon that is damaging resources that we rely on for survival, including water, wildlife, and agriculture. Thus, [client’s] efforts are undoubtedly of great societal value.”

Moving on to the next step:

Our client’s approved NIW petition allowed him to move with the final step of the green card process. We had also filed the I-485 applications for him and his spouse. In the meantime, we thank our client for working with us and also trusting us for the I-485 applications.
