On November 6th, 2020, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for an Assistant Professor and Internist in the Field of Bioinformatics (Approval Notice).

General Field: Bioinformatics

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Assistant Professor and Internist

Country of Origin: China

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Ohio

Approval Notice Date: November 6th, 2020

Processing Time: 8 months, 8 days

Case Summary:

An assistant professor and internist based in Ohio hired North America Immigration Law Group (NAILG) to file an EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition representing him. Before equipping our client’s case, we assessed his proposed research work in the field of bioinformatics. His research work in the field focused on leveraging next-generation sequencing techniques to elucidate genomic differences between populations to identify the genetic components involved in disease development. His research in his area of expertise seemed of great importance because understanding the genetic preconditions for disease enables the development of novel treatment strategies, drugs, and earlier diagnoses for a range of non-communicable diseases including cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

After evaluating his meticulous academic and professional testimonies, we were firm to lead him to NIW victory. To demonstrate the evidence to the USCIS, we added all the necessary documents in his petition packet:

  • We explained his research work, methods, and results along with his publications which have influenced his peers and other researchers in the field. We noted that he had already gained 50 citations from the 7 peer-reviewed journal articles (2 of them first-authored) as well as 1 peer-reviewed conference abstract he published. Also, we discerned that our client is a prominent member of the scientific community as a peer-reviewer and conducted 7 reviews, highlighting his noble position in the field of bioinformatics.
  • Further, we detailed our client’s research work, which has been aided by funding from leading agencies, expressing the acknowledged value and importance of his work. This funding includes grants from the National Science Foundation, which is the primary funding agency for non-medical research in the United States. These grants are reserved for research directly addressing critical problems in bioinformatics and the larger society.
  • Moreover, we supported our client’s petition by appending five recommendation letters that he gained from fellow experts. One of the recommenders stated:

“Given the general scientific and medical advantages of [our client’s] research and its direct benefits for public health in the United States, the nation should provide every available support for the continuation of his work.”

The USCIS was convinced with our presentation and granted EB-2 NIW petition approval to our client without any request for evidence (RFE). Our team at NAILG would like to congratulate him on this leap and thank him for allowing us to be a part of this success story.
