On May 19th, 2022, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Faculty at University in the Field of Biochemical Engineering (Approval Notice).

General Field: Biochemical Engineering

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Faculty at University

Country of Origin: Bangladesh

Country of Residence at the Time of Filing: Bangladesh

Approval Notice Date: May 19th, 2022

Processing Time: 16 months, 15 days

Case Summary:

A biochemical engineering expert from Bangladesh approached NAILG for his NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval. As is customary with our firm, we ensured that he knew the task ahead and moved forward with the retainer agreement. Our team began their toil by collecting documents and facts from these papers and used them to write a petition which would win him the approval later. The petition contained the following data:

  • His proposed endeavor: His proposed endeavor was to enhance the production of renewable biojet fuel through the solid-state fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass to reduce the environmental impact of aviation.
  • Importance of his work: His research advancing his proposed endeavor is of great importance because it is helping to address major global environmental and energy concerns. His proposed research on enhancing the production of renewable biojet fuel through the solid-state fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass to reduce the environmental impact of aviation, therefore, has substantial merit.
  • Implications for the United States: According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), global greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels have increased steadily in the past several decades, reaching new heights in recent years. Thus, his proposed endeavor has broad implications for the United States. The transportation sector in the United States is a major source of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the United States Department of Energy (DoE) notes that the adoption of renewable aviation fuels is an important aspect to ensure sustainability and is working to do so through its Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO). Thus, it is clear that biofuel research is an area of recognized significance to the United States and that our client’s expertise is in high demand.
  • Academic and professional achievements: Due to his knowledge and expertise in the field, our client has been regularly invited to conduct peer reviews for elite journals and conferences in the field and has completed at least 30 peer reviews to date. Additionally, he has served as an editor for 3 separate full-length books, a record that only emphasizes the place he holds at the forefront of the field. His research has resulted in 50 peer-reviewed journal articles (8 of them first-authored), 18 conference articles (8 of them first-authored), and 11 book chapters (6 of them first-authored). These publications have been cited a massive total of 1,125 times according to Google Scholar, thereby demonstrating that these publications are widely recognized and relied upon in the field of biochemical engineering.
  • Funding Information: His contributions have drawn recognition from several organizations and have been granted funding by MIUR.
  • Letters of recommendation and experience: His work was recognized by 2 experts in the field who furnished him with letters written in recommendation of his work. At the same time, he has pursued research directly related to his proposed endeavor for 10 years now, which has granted him immense experience and expertise.
So, when his petition was submitted, we were already certain of victory. Thus, his case did not receive an RFE. We are glad to have had the opportunity to work with him on this case and we wish him success in his future endeavors.
