In this case we were privileged to work with a civil engineer from China who had focused specifically on developing and implementing innovative methods to improve the state of the transportation system and national infrastructure. We successfully demonstrated that her continued employment in the field would benefit civil & traffic engineering as a field in addition to providing clear benefits to the populace of the United States as a whole. To support this argument, we submitted extensive documentation of her highly significant contributions to the field, including her 11 peer-reviewed scientific articles and numerous conference papers, which had received at least 48 citations at the time we filed the case. The majority of these citations came from independent researchers worldwide, indicating the wide recognition of and reliance upon our client’s work in the field of civil engineering. An independent recommender highlighted the importance of her work: “The innovative and exciting models she is developing represent national gains in terms of creating a more efficient roadway system, as well as representing the potential for a great reduction in traffic accidents and congestion, which leads to a reduction in fuel consumption.” We successfully argued that our client would serve the national interest to a significantly greater degree than would others with similar education and experience, and her NIW petition was approved in nine months and fifteen days.
