Case Summary:

In this case, the client we had the opportunity to work with was a graduate student from Iran whose research focused on several major issues within computer graphics and computer engineering, such as digital watermarking, high dynamic range photography, photo editing, Monte Carlo-rendered image denoising, and Poisson-disk sampling and distribution methods. We successfully demonstrated that his continued employment in the field would benefit those in his field, as well as the citizens of the United States at large. In order for our client’s case to be successful, we submitted extensive documentation proving his highly significant contributions to his field, including 9 peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous conference papers. His publications had been cited at least 179 times at the time we filed the case; nearly all of the citations were by independent researchers around the world, demonstrating that these publications are widely recognized and relied upon in the field. An independent recommender emphasized the significance of his work: “[Client’s] work on still imagery is now one of only three categories for HDR image reconstruction, and offers significant advantages over the other two (known as motion detection and image alignment). Regarding HDR video, his combination of the patch-based optimization and optical flow was the very first time that such a combination was done, and done successfully.” Through extensive documentation, we were able to successfully argue that our client would serve the national interest to a significantly greater degree than others with similar education and experience. His NIW petition was approved in four months and fifteen days.
