Success Stories: An Iranian Researcher in Computer Science Wins NIW Status without RFE, Thanks to Our Team’s Efforts

Client’s Testimonial:

“Thank you for your hard work!”

On May 11th, 2022, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Researcher in the Field of Computer Science (Approval Notice).

General Field: Computer Science

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Researcher

Country of Origin: Iran

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: New Jersey

Approval Notice Date: May 11th, 2022

Processing Time: 3 months, 24 days

Case Summary:

An expert in the field of computer science from Iran approached us seeking help with her NIW (National Interest Waiver) case. She was a researcher in the area and her work was on using mathematical models and computer algorithms to cluster customers and facilitate urban design applications such as siting and competitive marketing. Our team dug deep into her credentials and other documents such as CVs, transcripts, and certificates to find supporting arguments in her favor. Soon we discovered that her research advancing her proposed endeavor is of great importance because it resolves issues related to facility location, which is an important factor in a business’s success in an extremely competitive environment.

We found that she had developed geometric models to study real-world problems related to facility placement, enabling businesses to solve these challenges in a cost-effective manner. Her research also extended to problems in computer vision. Within this domain, there is a high demand for robotics able to efficiently use sensors to observe their environment. Our client has developed algorithms that employ mathematical models to observe complex environments with unpredictable geometries. Her work is thus directly furthering needed developments for major urban design improvements as well as supporting businesses in increasing their access to customers without limiting their market share.

This is why one of her 4 recommendation letters corroborated her work’s relevance saying:

“[The client’s] research is extremely valuable to the business community, as the contemporary business environment is more competitive than any of its predecessors. [The client’s] research has resulted in clear articulations of the problems associated with facility placement as well as geometric models that help businesses solve these problems. It is therefore obvious that she has made a relevant contribution to both the field of computer science and the business community.”

On the other hand, her work also has broad implications for the United States, since the U.S. population has become increasingly urbanized over the past fifty years. Her work has hence given her immense knowledge in the field and her expertise has resulted in regular invitations for peer review services for authoritative journals and conferences in the field. She has already completed at least 25 reviews to date. And her work has resulted in 15 peer-reviewed journal articles (ten of them first-authored), 7 conference papers, and 1 first-authored book chapter. These publications have been cited a total of 13 times according to Google Scholar as well.

Thus, our client has pursued research directly related to her proposed endeavor for 17 years during which her work was funded by 2 major sources, namely the Iran Ministry of Science Research and Technology and the Niroo Research Institute of Iran. These funds further show that her work is valuable to the scientific community at large.

So, when her approval came through, we were elated at the victory. We wish our client all the best and look forward to further collaborations with her.
