Case Summary:

In this case, the client that we had the opportunity to work with was a postdoctoral research fellow from China in the field of hydrology. Our client’s specialized research has focused on the study of hydrological patterns and variability through the use of satellite remote sensing, with the objective of developing improved disaster response decision support systems in areas that are most vulnerable to flooding and extreme hydrological events. His work had resulted in 26 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 2 book chapters, 2 technical reports, 1 suite of training materials, 4 conference papers,  and numerous presentations at national and international conferences. At the time that his case was filed, his publications had been cited at least 160 times by independent and leading researchers from prestigious institutions and organizations around the world, indicating the major significance of his work. He had also served as a manuscript reviewer for at least 11 distinctive, internationally-circulated journals and 1 conference.  His superior level of expertise was confirmed in the following quote from an independent recommender, “The accomplishments that I have just outlined are a direct outgrowth of [client’s] peerless grasp of a range of computer science and programming techniques. His knowledge of GIS software platforms, various meteorological data processing tools, groundwater numerical models, and hydrological modeling platforms forms the foundation on which his research achievements have been built, and distinguish him from his peers… Viewing the totality of his output and all that he has accomplished so far, it is evident that [client] has reached the upper echelon of hydrology.” It was our goal to prove that our client qualified for classification as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability given that he sought to remain in the United States to continue work in the area of hydrology, and that his continued research would substantially and prospectively benefit the United States. With the proof and documentation that we provided, his case was approved in 6 days.
