Success Story: Advancing Epigenetics Research Leads to NIW Approval for a Chinese Researcher
Client’s Testimonial:
“Thanks for your help during my NIW process.”
On September 9th, 2026, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Field of Epigenetics (Approval Notice).
General Field: Epigenetics
Position at the Time of Case Filing: Postdoctoral Researcher
Country of Origin: China
State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Texas
Approval Notice Date: September 9th, 2026
Processing Time: 16 months, 17 days (Premium Processing Upgrade Requested)
Case Summary:
North America Immigration Law Group (NAILG) successfully secured approval of an I-140 National Interest Waiver (NIW) petition for a Chinese researcher whose work focuses on epigenetics and biological regulation. The client holds a Ph.D. in biology and, at the time of filing, was conducting research at a U.S.-based medical research institution. The client’s proposed work focuses on advancing research in epigenetics and related areas of biology, with the broader goal of contributing to scientific knowledge and supporting future developments in biomedical research and human health.
Advancing Research on Metabolic Health
A key part of our strategy was demonstrating the broader significance of the client’s research and its potential contributions to scientific knowledge and public health. We explained how the client’s work could advance understanding in the field, support future research, and contribute to the development of improved approaches to addressing important health-related challenges. We also connected the client’s research to broader U.S. priorities in biomedical research, scientific innovation, and public health.
The petition emphasized that the client’s proposed endeavor extended beyond a single laboratory project. Instead, it represented a broader effort to advance knowledge in the field through research involving molecular biology, bioinformatics, gene regulation, and related areas. The client’s background, current research, and record of scholarly contributions demonstrated the ability to continue advancing this work in the United States.
Demonstrating Research Influence
At the time of filing, the client had established a focused record of scholarly achievement, including:
- 7 peer-reviewed journal articles, including 3 first-authored publications
- 4 first-authored conference abstracts
- 24 citations to the client’s published work
- At least 5 completed peer reviews
- Research support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF)
2 recommendation letters from experts in the field. One expert noted:
"It is clear that [Client’s] work is of great value to the United States and that he is an influential presence in the research sphere."
Rather than relying on these figures alone, we demonstrated how they reflected the client’s significance in the field. The citation record showed that independent researchers had drawn upon the client’s findings in later studies involving biological timing, epigenetic regulation, disease transmission, hormone signaling, and survival-related biological processes. The client’s peer-review activity also helped show that other professionals trusted the client’s expertise in evaluating scholarly work.
We further showed that several publications had achieved citation rates substantially above comparable research, including 1 paper ranking among the top 1%, 2 papers among the top 10%, and 1 paper among the top 20% most-cited Plant & Animal Science articles for their respective publication years. This comparative evidence helped demonstrate that the client’s work had received meaningful attention beyond ordinary publication.
NIW Approval and Outlook
Throughout the process, NAILG brought together the client’s academic background, epigenetics research, publication record, citation impact, peer-review service, expert support, funded research involvement, and future research plans to demonstrate both the national importance of the proposed work and the client’s ability to advance it.
The petition was filed on April 23rd, 2025, later upgraded to premium processing, and approved on September 9th, 2026. We wish the client continued success in advancing epigenetics, molecular biology, metabolic disease research, and scientific efforts that may contribute to improved health outcomes in the United States.
