Her work has focused specifically on the development of improved treatments to counter the negative effects of marijuana abuse and for serious mental illnesses such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and schizophrenia.  Specifically, she has discovered moderators of the response to marijuana (THC) in humans, the effects of N-acetylcysteine on improving the negative cognitive effects of marijuana and on reducing aggressive behavior in chronically hospitalized mentally ill patients, and the effects of riluzole for the treatment of PTSD.
