In this case we were offered the opportunity to work with an Indian biomedical engineer, whose research had focused specifically on improving medical imaging technology, especially x-ray and nuclear medicine imaging technology. As part of our successful strategy for our client’s case, we submitted extensive documentation proving her highly significant contributions to her field, which included 16 peer-reviewed journal articles, 6 conference papers, and 5 patents. This work had received at least 252 citations by the time we filed her case, nearly all of which were by independent researchers around the world, demonstrating the wide recognition of and reliance upon our client’s work in her field. We also showed that her continued employment in her field would benefit both her field as a whole and the people of the United States in general. An independent recommender confirmed the importance of her work: “[Client] developed a technique that uses multiple view x -ray imaging to determine the 3-dimensional location, shape, and size of a lesion—information that can then be used to calculate the radioactivity concentration in both the lesion and the background breast tissue. … the results showed that this method can be used to calculate significantly improved estimates of the true concentration ratio between lesions and background tissue.” We successfully argued that our client would serve the national interest to a significantly greater degree than others with similar education and experience. Her NIW petition was approved in ten months and twenty-nine days.
