Case Summary:

In this case we were offered the opportunity to work with a Japanese oncologist, who had focused specifically on mesothelioma. As part of our successful strategy for our client’s case, we submitted extensive documentation proving his highly significant contributions to his field, which included 6 peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous conference papers and presentations.  This work had received at least 247 citations by the time we filed his case, nearly all of which were by independent researchers around the world, demonstrating the wide recognition of and reliance upon our client’s work in his field. We also showed that his continued employment in his field would benefit both his field as a whole and the people of the United States in general. An independent recommender confirmed the importance of his work: “[Client] determined a cancer risk of over 60% for those with the BAPI mutation, as opposed to less than 10% for those without it. He also showed a relationship between germline BAP1 mutations and cancer syndromes such as cutaneous melanoma and melanocytic BAPI- mutated atypical intradermal tumors. Thanks to this discovery, the world of cancer research has gained access to an important area of further research: a new cancer biomarker that is relevant to numerous different forms of cancer.” We successfully argued that our client would serve the national interest to a significantly greater degree than others with similar education and experience. His NIW petition was approved in five months and ten days.
