Case Summary:

The client that we had the opportunity to work with in this case was a Postdoctoral Fellow from China in the field of medicinal chemistry.  He had conducted his research in the highly specialized areas of synthetic medicinal and organic chemistry, particularly as they concern the design, synthesis and bio-evaluation of small molecules that exhibit great capacity to inhibit protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), the activity of which is commonly implicated in oncogenesis, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, and the virulence of tuberculosis (TB) and the HIV-1 retrovirus.  This work had resulted in at least 16 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 1 book chapter and numerous presentations at national and international conferences. At the time that his case was filed, these publications been cited at least 165 times by independent and leading researchers from prestigious institutions and organizations around the world, indicating the major significance of his work.  He had also reviewed at least 28 manuscripts for distinctive, internationally-circulated journals in his field.  The significant implications of his research was confirmed in the following quote from an independent recommender, “As a result of [his] experiments, scientists now possess crucial information and tested techniques for the therapeutic inhibition of proteins responsible for a host of diseases, of which leukemia and TB are just two examples.Given that these diseases kill millions of people each year, [his] research is of the highest therapeutic value, and his continued research is crucial so that scientists can make further improvements on these lifesaving technologies. [He] has done more than most in improving the state of this research, and that is why I support his work.” It was our goal to prove that our client qualified for classification as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability given that he sought to remain in the United States to continue work in the area of medicinal chemistry, and that his continued research would substantially and prospectively benefit the United States. With the proof and documentation that we provided, his case was approved in 2 months and 20 days.
