In this case we were offered the opportunity to work with a Taiwanese computational biologist, who had focused specifically on the application of cutting-edge molecular dynamics simulations to the mechanisms of biomolecular recognition and binding kinetics. As part of our successful strategy for our client’s case, we submitted extensive documentation proving her highly significant contributions to her field, which included 15 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles. This work had received at least 11 citations by the time we filed her case, nearly all of which were by independent researchers around the world, demonstrating the wide recognition of and reliance upon our client’s work in her field. We also showed that her continued employment in her field would benefit both her field as a whole and the people of the United States in general. An independent recommender confirmed the importance of her work: “[Client’s] impressive research agenda includes the development and application of computational methods for the use of free energy to predict protein -drug binding. Her methods have the virtue of improving greatly upon existing methods for the study of protein -drug binding and therefore speeding up the drug design and discovery process. She has had particular success in studying HIV protease as well as several cancer -related systems.” We successfully argued that our client would serve the national interest to a significantly greater degree than others with similar education and experience. Her NIW petition was approved in 4 months and 23 days.
