In this case, North America Immigration Law Group was given the opportunity to work with an electrical engineer from Iran who conducted interdisciplinary research in the general areas of radio frequency propagation, wireless communications, microwave photonics and quantum optics. We showed that his continued employment in his field would benefit both his field in particular and the populace of the United States as a whole. His work had been published in 10 peer-reviewed journal articles as well as 13 conference papers. At the time we filed his case, these publications had received over 70 citations from independent researchers around the world, a strong testament to the wide reliance upon this research in the field as well as the broad recognition it has received. He had also reviewed 18 papers for 8 different prominent journals in his field. An independent recommender emphasized the importance of our client’s work: “[Client’s] results established a novel method for information encoding in the degree of freedom of biphotons, which can be applied to multiuser quantum key distribution and to the development of new code-based time-frequency quantum key distribution protocols. This work has been significant for information security and seen as essential to a variety of applications including banking systems, nuclear reactors, satellites, and spacecraft.” Through extensive documentation, we were able to successfully argue that our client would serve the national interest to a significantly greater degree than others with similar education and experience. His NIW petition was approved in five months and eight days.
