Success Stories: After Nearly a Year, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from Singapore in the Field of Computational Chemistry Obtains NIW Approval

Client’s Testimonial:

“NAILG did a very professional job of helping me with the EB-2 NIW application. I would recommend them to graduate students and postdocs who are seeking to secure their employment future in America.”

On April 5th, 2017, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Field of Computational Chemistry (Approval Notice).

Case Summary:

Exactly 11 months and 11 days after North America Immigration Law Group (NAILG) filed an EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition on behalf of a Singaporean postdoctoral research fellow, the USCIS finally approved his case.

With a Ph.D. in Chemistry and extensive experience conducting computation chemistry fieldwork, our client was a suitable candidate for the national interest waiver. Even so, he needed our expert help to put together a clear NIW presentation. After going through his various achievements in the field, we chose to focus on the following information:

  • We noted the 170 times our client’s work was cited by dependent and independent researchers. Using this number, we demonstrated to the USCIS that our client’s findings are of great importance to the overall advancement of the field.
  • We paid close attention to our client’s work on the effects of pH on biological systems. We determined that his research contributes to the comprehensive understanding of drug discovery, biomedicine, and biophysics. We also convinced the USCIS that our client’s work positively impacts the United States’ healthcare community.
  • Our client’s 12 published scientific articles were also listed. This is a highly productive record compared to that of his peers in the field, as confirmed by a well-known associate professor: “[Client] has also published a dozen journal articles including an unusually high number in one of the most highly cited peer-reviewed journals in chemistry, the Journal of the American Chemical Society. Such periodicals hold submissions to the most rigorous criteria, so [Client’s] continued and repeated publication in these journals asserts the superiority of his research.”
The aforementioned quote was extracted from a recommendation letter which we included in our client’s petition dossier. This letter was accompanied by three others, all of which were contributed by other experts in the field. We have no doubt that their words of support played an important role in attaining petition approval.

Less than 2 months after our client received notification of NIW approval, we filed an I-485 application on his behalf. We join him as he waits for the USCIS to take action on his application. Once approved, our client will become an American permanent resident. We wish him the best with this step and thank him for working with us.
