Case Summary:

An Iranian mechanical engineering expert with a proposed endeavor to continue his research on improving, monitoring, and controlling additive manufacturing processes by examining their parameters came to us at NAILG seeking help with his NIW Petition. The EB2-NIW or National Interest Waiver demands petitioners to prove their worth for the United States and this is usually what our job entails. We make sure to use information picked up from various sources to win their approval. So for this client too, we made a list of information to customize his petition with:

• His work aimed to decrease manufacturing lead time and increase product quality and his proposed endeavor is of great importance because it supports the global advanced manufacturing industry, which is a key component in nearly every aspect of modern life.
• Among other applications, his research is relevant to supporting the growth of the advanced manufacturing industry around the world and maintaining the United States’ place as a leader in advanced manufacturing.
• His proposed endeavor also has broad implications for the United States, since manufacturing in the United States has suffered considerably over the past 2 decades, losing approximately a third of its jobs due to structural issues and the pressure of cheaper overseas manufacturing.

This is why his work has been praised by other experts who were familiar with his research. He obtained 5 letters of recommendation from such experts of which one made the following remark about him:

“[The client’s] work with powder-bed fusion processes is well-suited to reduce these astronomical costs by streamlining the process of additive manufacturing in healthcare. In recent years, additive manufacturing has made huge strides towards use in a variety of healthcare-related applications, but one of the most important areas involves improving how surgical implants function in the body. Notably, certain additive manufacturing processes, such as fused deposition modeling, are also being used to create real or prototype artificial limbs, which are urgently needed in the United States. That is why [client’s] research, which improves the technology used to create surgical implants and artificial limbs, is essential to the United States.”

• Due to his knowledge and expertise in the field, he has also been regularly invited to conduct peer reviews for elite journals in the field, including reviews, and has completed at least 3 peer reviews to date.
• At the time of filing documents, his research has resulted in 4 peer-reviewed journal articles (all of them first-authored), 6 conference proceedings papers (4 of them first-authored), and 3 book chapters (2 of them first-authored) which have been cited a total of 135 times according to Google Scholar.

Finally, he has pursued research directly related to his proposed endeavor for 5 years which adds to his achievements. So when his case was approved we were delighted to share the news with our client. We are happy to have helped him in this process and we wish him all the best in this process.
