Case Summary:

Our NIW or National Interest Waiver client from Ethiopia was an expert in the field of wireless communications. His proposed endeavor was to work on developing new algorithms for multi-hop wireless networks and cognitive radio networks. This would lead to improvements in the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of wireless communication and monitoring in commercial and military applications. Thus, it was clear that his research was of great importance because it improves the performance and efficiency of wireless networks. This is why a recommender supporting his work said:

“The modern technologies involved in wireless communication offer the compelling pledge of limitless capabilities to individual users and the world, spurring further advances and use in everyday life. However, wireless communications in their current form are based on the finite resource of radio frequencies, which, as they currently function, are unable to support unlimited developments. This concern is called spectrum scarcity. Fortunately, [the client’s] study of Cognitive Radio Networks has yielded essential developments in this area.”

Due to this, our team could recognize that his knowledge and expertise in cognitive radio, mobile ad-hoc networks, and the Internet of Things were indeed at par with the demands of the EB2-NIW category. Our team made sure that his petition packet also reflected this conviction by including the following:

• He has been regularly invited to conduct peer reviews for authoritative journals in the field at least 8 reviews to date.
• He has served as a guest editor for several national and international scientific journals in his area of expertise.
• In addition, he has served on the technical program committees of at least 7 international conferences.
• On the other hand, his work in the field has resulted in 7 peer-reviewed conference papers (3 of them first-authored) and 9 peer-reviewed journal articles (4 of them first-authored).
• These publications have been cited a total of 112 times according to Google Scholar.
• Furthermore, his study has received funding from the National IT Industry Promoting Agency of Korea and the National Research Foundation of Korea.
• At the same time, he has pursued research directly related to his proposed endeavor of developing new algorithms for multi-hop wireless networks and cognitive radio networks in order to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of wireless communication for 11 years.

These bits of evidence helped our team prove beyond a reasonable doubt that there is a particularly urgent need for our client’s continuing contributions here in the United States. We were able to show that he is uniquely well positioned to pursue this work considering the breadth of his many years of experience as well as his leadership and expertise in the field.
