With a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering and extensive experience progressing the field of power systems engineering, our client seemed like a prime candidate for EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver).
After agreeing to take on his case, we got to work building a case that highlighted the national importance and merit of his work, that he is well-positioned to advance the field, and that it would be beneficial to the United States to waive the requirements of a job offer and thus of a labor certification. Amongst other things, we included his publication count and citation record in the petition dossier. At the time of filing, our client had already published 2 peer-reviewed journal articles (1 of them first-authored) and 5 conference papers (3 of them first-authored), and his work had collectively gathered 25 citations.
We then proved that our client is one of only a small handful of researchers in the field of power systems engineering whose work is focused specifically on integrating renewable energy sources into the power grid, improving intelligent control and energy management systems for microgrids and storage devices, and enhancing power electronic converters design and control. We worked meticulously to prove to the USCIS that our client is contributing to the United States’ energy independence and security, while simultaneously benefiting environmental and economic health in the U.S.
To further prove that our client deserved the national interest waiver, we incorporated recommendation letters signed by other researchers into the petition packet. According to one of these researchers, our client’s work is superior to that of others as “…his comprehensive analysis approach is significantly more detailed and inclusive than existing approaches, increasing the accuracy and reliability of this method.”
After waiting just 4 months and 13 days (the average wait time is between 4-9 months), our client received notification of case approval. We congratulate him on this win and wish him the best with his continued research efforts.
