Case Summary:
Our NIW (National Interest Waiver) client, hailing from Taiwan, was an expert in the field of meteorology. Since the NIW waives permanent job offers and labor certification for those talented few who are valuable to the United States because of their work, we showed that our client’s proposed endeavor was to continue developing brand-new and refined advanced data assimilation techniques using modern observational data (e.g., weather radar) for the national operational forecasting systems. He wanted to improve the accuracy of hazardous weather forecasts and reduce losses in life and property. This meant that his work was valuable for American lives and the economy as well.
So, while prepping his petition letter, we showed that he is enabling more robust weather prediction, including greater accuracy and longer lead time of extreme weather forecasts, thus enabling better preparation and fewer casualties from extreme weather events. And thus his research is of great importance because it is necessary for improving the prediction of severe storms and other weather events. This is why his work has been supported with funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
On the other hand, we were able to show that he has completed at least 5 reviews to date and has published two peer-reviewed journal articles (one of them first-authored), four conference abstracts, and a dissertation. These publications have also been cited a total of 39 times according to Google Scholar.
