On January 30th, 2025, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Field of Applied Superconductivity (Approval Notice).
General Field: Applied Superconductivity
Position at the Time of Case Filing: Postdoctoral Associate
Country of Origin: Tajikistan
State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Colorado
Approval Notice Date: January 30th, 2025
Processing Time: 12 months, 14 days
Case Summary:
It was our honor to assist a physics expert, who holds a Ph.D. in the field, in obtaining approval for an EB-2 NIW petition without any RFE issues. Following our case-by-case strategy, we carefully analyzed the client’s accomplishments and presented the evidence in a manner that emphasized both scholarly achievements and broader national impact.
The client’s proposed endeavor is focused on advancing applied superconductivity through the development of state-of-the-art single-photon detector arrays based on superconducting electronics. These technologies have wide-reaching applications in deep space exploration and communication, biomedical imaging, and the advancement of quantum sensing, communication, and computing. Such work addresses critical areas of science and technology that are formally recognized as priorities for U.S. leadership.
We demonstrated the national significance of this research by underscoring how these innovations contribute to cutting-edge space missions, enhance diagnostic imaging, and bolster next-generation computing and secure communication systems. The evidence showed that the client’s continued work is essential to advancing U.S. competitiveness in critical and emerging technology areas.
To establish the client’s strong record of accomplishment, we highlighted a publication portfolio of 8 peer-reviewed journal articles (4 first-authored) and 1 conference paper. This body of work has already been cited 73 times, reflecting its relevance and influence within the scientific community. The client has also served as a peer reviewer on at least 5 occasions for respected journals, a role reserved for trusted experts in the field.
We further emphasized the competitive research support the client has received, including funding from highly prestigious sources such as NASA’s Astrophysics Research and Analysis Program (APRA) and the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science High Energy Physics (HEP) program. Such recognition demonstrates the high national value placed on this line of research.
The petition also included 4 detailed recommendation letters from experts in physics and superconductivity. These letters praised the originality and significance of the client’s work and confirmed the critical role of these contributions to advancing national goals.
“The growing importance in the United States for more effective optical detectors speaks to the urgent need for [Client] to continue his research in applied superconductivity.”
Based on the strength of the client’s achievements and the clear importance of the proposed endeavor, USCIS approved the NIW petition. We are proud to have supported this accomplished researcher in achieving this milestone, and we extend our best wishes for continued success in future endeavors.
