Case Summary:

 

With a Ph.D. in information science, the client has built an extensive research career in emerging technologies. His proposed endeavor focuses on advancing artificial intelligence-based technologies that can make information, services, and everyday activities more accessible to people with disabilities. Through this work, he aims to support greater independence and inclusion while contributing to improvements in areas such as healthcare and education.

 

The client plans to continue this research in a lead research role focused on technology and accessibility or in a similar position. We demonstrated the national relevance of his endeavor by connecting it to the growing importance of artificial intelligence and advanced computing in the United States, as well as the potential for these technologies to expand access to healthcare, educational resources, and other essential services. The case therefore presented his work not simply as technological development, but as research with broader societal applications.

 

His scholarly record provided substantial evidence that he was well positioned to pursue these goals. The client had produced 24 peer-reviewed journal articles, including 11 first-authored papers, along with an accepted journal article, 7 published conference articles, an accepted conference article, and a first-authored conference abstract. His publications had accumulated 830 citations. Importantly, we contextualized this number through bibliometric evidence showing that 15 of his papers ranked among the top 10% most cited computer science publications for their respective years, while another 4 ranked among the top 20%. This comparative evidence helped demonstrate that independent researchers had relied upon his work at rates that stood out within the field.

Although the I-140 NIW petition received an RFE, the case ultimately resulted in approval.
