This time we were given the opportunity to work with a civil engineer from India specializing in geomatics and geospatial technologies. We submitted extensive documentation proving the high significance of her contributions to her field, including her 2 peer-reviewed journal articles as well as 10 presentations and publications at national and international conferences - a productive and exemplary body of work that had received 19 citations by the time we filed her case. The great majority of these citations are from independent researchers distributed worldwide, demonstrating the wide reliance upon and recognition of our client’s work in her field. An independent recommender affirmed the importance of her work: “[A]fter a hurricane, one of the primary jobs for emergency responders is to clear debris. Therefore, estimating the degree of damage is a major aid in this effort. To accomplish this, [Client] combined two methods, LiDAR and aerial imagery; the synergy of the two methods greatly outstrips information gathered by either one alone. Using this new method, [Client] was able to show that the method could provide accurate and extremely fast estimations of the degree of downed trees in a given area. […] tools for accurate situational awareness like those created by [Client] for disaster management workers not only provide crucial information but allow for more sound planning and decision making in response to such an event.” We successfully demonstrated that our client’s continued employment in the field would benefit the people of the United States as a whole as well as her fellow researchers, and argued that she would serve the national interest to a significantly greater degree than others with similar education and experience. Her NIW petition was approved in nine months and twelve days.
