Case Summary:

Here we had the opportunity to work with a postdoctoral research fellow from China in the field of molecular biology. The research he had conducted focused on the underlying molecular mechanisms of genetic and psychiatric disorders, particularly schizophrenia. His 20 peer-reviewed scientific articles had appeared in prestigious and high-impact journals, and he had presented at 6 conferences; the major significance of his contributions is indicated both by the quality of journals in which he had published and by the 142 citations his work had received at the time we filed his case, from independent researchers at prestigious institutions worldwide. Our client additionally had reviewed 33 articles for internationally-circulated and respected journals. An independent recommender confirmed the exceptional nature and value of his work in the following quote: “The study was significant because [Client] circumvented traditional roadblocks in this process by developing a mouse model that enabled the functionalized real time study of mitochondrial protein responses to antipsychotic drugs. His method was hazard-free and ethically viable, which makes it even more beneficial because there are ethical concerns about psychiatric drug testing in humans. The results of this study offer direct evidence that proteins in the OXPHOS pathway regulate pathogenesis and mitochondrial dysfunction after treatment with antipsychotic drugs.” We endeavored to prove that our client’s continued research would substantially and prospectively benefit the United States, and that, given that he sought to remain in the USA to continue work in the relevant field, he qualified as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability. The argument we made, with the proof and documentation we submitted, resulted in his case being approved in just 21 days.
