In this case we were offered the opportunity to work with a Taiwanese electrical engineer, who had focused specifically on biomedical optical imaging and organic light emitting diodes. As part of our successful strategy for our client’s case, we submitted extensive documentation proving his highly significant contributions to his field, which included 18 peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous conference papers and presentations. This work had received at least 110 citations by the time we filed his case, nearly all of which were by independent researchers around the world, demonstrating the wide recognition of and reliance upon our client’s work in his field. We also showed that his continued employment in his field would benefit both his field as a whole and the people of the United States in general. An independent recommender confirmed the importance of his work: “Although relatively simple tissues are now routinely constructed in labs, the construction of more complex organs remains elusive, partly due to gaps in understanding of exactly how cells attach themselves to bioscaffolds and begin spreading. Previous efforts to study this phenomenon have experienced difficulties due to problems obtaining high-quality images of this process. [Client’s] development of aFLOT technology represents a major advance toward this goal.” We successfully argued that our client would serve the national interest to a significantly greater degree than others with similar education and experience. His NIW petition was approved in 5 months and 12 days.
