Success Stories: NAILG Wins NIW Approval for a Postdoctoral Research Associate Hailing from Nepal Working in Biomedical Engineering

Client’s Testimonial:

“Thank you again for your help and effort that made the I-140 approval possible.”

On October 12th, 2022, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Field of Biomedical Engineering (Approval Notice).

General Field: Biomedical Engineering

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Postdoctoral Research Associate

Country of Origin: Nepal

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Pennsylvania

Approval Notice Date: October 12th, 2022

Processing Time: 10 months, 17 days

Case Summary:

Armed with a Ph.D. in applied biomedical engineering an expert in the field came to us for her National Interest Waiver (I-140 NIW) case. She wanted us to help her prepare and file the petition to the USCIS. This meant gathering evidence to prove her work’s significance to the country. Our team being deft at this process, began immediately after signing the agreement with her and collected the following:

  • She wanted to work on investigating novel therapeutic, diagnostic, and theranostic technologies based on biomaterials and tissue engineering techniques in order to develop an effective and novel regenerative medicine approach to improve the quality of life of patients with cardiovascular diseases.
  • This research is of great importance because it directly addresses the complications associated with abdominal aortic aneurysms. A ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm can cause life-threatening bleeding, but they are difficult to detect.
  • Her work is also significant in regard to abdominal aortic aneurysms because it is necessary to develop a non-surgical approach to treatment. With her minimally invasive techniques designed with stem cells and nanoparticles, her work is globally important to the health outcomes of cardiovascular disease patients around the world.
  • At the same time, her work also has broad implications for the United States as cardiovascular disease has become extremely widespread in the country, and almost half of all adult Americans have some type of cardiovascular disease, according to a report published in the American Heart Association journal Circulation.
  • Due to its clear national importance, her research has in fact been supported with funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the American Heart Association.
  • Additionally, her work has led to growth in her reliability due to which she has completed at least 7 reviews to date and her research has also resulted in 6 peer-reviewed journal articles (3 of them first-authored) which have been cited a total of 41 times according to Google Scholar.
  • With 6 years of experience behind her back, she also obtained 4 letters of recommendation from other experts of which two has the following to say about her work:
“[The client’s] biomedical engineering research focuses on applying tissue engineering technology and other forward-thinking techniques to improve treatments for numerous conditions including aneurysms and cardiovascular diseases. This research has established her as a prominent asset to the interests of the United States. The national importance of [the client’s] research further confirms that she is amongst the most vital scientists working in her field today.”

“Abdominal aortic aneurysms represent a major difficulty for the US medical community. In response, researchers in diverse fields have undertaken innovative studies to improve the available treatments for abdominal aortic aneurysms. [The client] is one such researcher in the field of biomedical engineering. By applying biomaterial technologies and tissue engineering to investigating and treating abdominal aortic aneurysms and cardiovascular diseases, [the client] has produced numerous breakthroughs that are of great significance for the public health of the United States.”

As is evident from the above statements, the client was indeed valuable to the country and this is what won her the approval from the USCIS. We are glad to have been of assistance to her in the process.
