Success Stories: NIW Petition Approved Without RFE for an Iranian Senior Data Scientist holding a master’s degree and working in the Field of Data Science

Client’s Testimonial:

“Thank you very much for your help with this!”

On January 23rd, 2020, we received another NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Senior Data Scientist in the Field of Data Science (Approval Notice).

General Field: Data Science

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Senior Data Scientist

Country of Origin: Iran

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: California

Approval Notice Date: January 23rd, 2020

Processing Time: 6 months, 2 days

Case Summary:

Exactly 6 months and 2 days after we filed an EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition on behalf of a senior data scientist from Iran, the USCIS approved his case. At first glance, our client was suitably qualified for the national interest waiver as amongst other things, he possessed an M.S. in management science and engineering as well as many years of experience researching the field of data science.

Assembling a Strong NIW Petition:

Part of the process in getting our client closer to his green card involved presenting his various achievements to the USCIS. These were several of the points we focused on:

  • We noted our client’s significant citation record: at the time of filing, he already had 98 citations to his published research. Moreover, he had 5 peer-reviewed journal articles (four of them first-authored, one of them co-first-authored) , which we highlighted in the petition.
  • Our client’s work is concentrated specifically on using mathematical and statistical analysis in healthcare and energy systems. His work in this area is of great importance because it utilizes data science to solve pressing issues in healthcare applications and energy use. In a nutshell, we clearly demonstrated to the USCIS that our client’s findings have a profound impact in the field of data science.
  • Of additional significance were the 5 recommendation letters that were signed by our client’s peers, all of which were included in our client’s well planned NIW dossier. One of these letters stated: “Medical patients, doctors, healthcare companies, and energy consumers profit in different ways from data science, and specifically from [client’s] efforts. As a result, this field of study holds inherent value. Additionally, as a pioneer in the study of data science, [client’s] work repeatedly demonstrates its value in promoting original conclusionary results that are ultimately of great use for professionals studying a diverse range of subjects.”

We are pleased to take this opportunity to congratulate our client and wish him the best as he takes the final step towards his green card. We thank him for trusting us and retaining our services to help him adjust his status for permanent residence by filing an I-485 application.
