On May 23rd, 2018, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Research Associate in the Field of Biotechnology (Approval Notice).

General Field: Biotechnology

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Research Associate

Country of Origin: Taiwan

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Illinois

Approval Notice Date: May 23rd, 2018

Processing Time: 5 months, 2 days

Case Summary:

With an M.A. in Biotechnology and ample experience advancing the same field, a research associate from Taiwan seemed like a good fit for EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver). Even so, we carefully evaluated her credentials to be sure that she met the national interest waiver guidelines set by Matter of Dhanasar. Once we were convinced that we had a solid case, we got to work building a unique petition for our client.

In order to stand out from the thousands of other NIW petitions sent to the USCIS, we knew that we had to clearly and concisely prove the meritorious nature of our client’s work. By the time we were ready to file her petition, we had built a customized case that contained data on everything from the 33 times her 3 publications were cited, to the significance of her work on developing new methods for diagnosing and treating high-grade brain tumors and providing new insights into the mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease. We emphasized that our client’s research is aiding in the development of new treatment methods and that she should be allowed to remain in the US to carry out her important work.

Not just that, we also included recommendation letters signed by a handful of other well-known biotechnologists. According to one of them, our client’s work is “highly relevant to ongoing medical research projects around the world.” Another recommender noted that our client “is highly professional in the fields of neurology and biotechnology and an essential contributor to her field of research.”

The comprehensive NIW petition packet our legal team put together contained convincing evidence of the benefits of our client’s research to the United States. We are glad that she has passed this first, significant hurdle in the green card process, and we wish her all the best as she continues to conduct impactful research in the field of biotechnology.
