Case Summary:

Exactly 5 months and 20 days after we filed an I-140 petition (first step in green card proceedings) on our client’s behalf, Texas Service Center sent us an approval notice. Our client’s petition was filed under the EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) visa category and our job was to prove to the USICS that our client qualified for the national interest waiver and that her work is of substantial value to the United States. In preparing the EB-2 NIW petition packet, we compiled the following information:

• Research Endeavors

Our client, a translational informatics scientist from Taiwan, is working in the field of bioinformatics. Her work focuses on the development of software tools and methodologies used to understand biological data, and we proved that her findings benefit medical research, especially in regards to drug discovery. Furthermore, we convinced the USCIS that her research impacts the United States economy since improved medical care helps to reduce the financial burden caused by cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

• Publication and Citation Record

When we filed our client’s case, her half a dozen published papers had obtained 225 citations. This proves that her insights are important to other scientists in the field and that her work intrinsically progresses the research of other experts.

• Advanced Degree

Our client certainly has an illustrious educational background. She has two M.S. degrees—one obtained from a university in Taiwan and the other from an American institution.
