Case Summary:
On June 29, 2026, we received another EB-2 National Interest Waiver (NIW) approval for a biomedical science researcher whose work focuses on developing effective treatment and preventive strategies for diseases. The client holds a Ph.D. in immunology and was conducting biomedical research at the time of filing, with plans to continue advancing research involving biomolecules, disease mechanisms, diagnostic and therapeutic applications, antimicrobial approaches, and preventive strategies related to aging and memory impairment.
The client’s proposed endeavor was presented as important not only because it involved biomedical science in a broad sense, but because it addressed areas with clear public health relevance. We explained how the client’s research could support the identification of useful molecules for diagnostic tools, therapeutic antibodies, antimicrobial applications, and other biomedical uses. This allowed us to connect the client’s technical work to national priorities, including disease prevention, antimicrobial resistance, aging-related health challenges, biotechnology development, and broader public health needs.
To show that the client was well-positioned to continue this endeavor, we emphasized the client’s established research record. The client had authored 26 peer-reviewed journal articles, including 7 first-authored articles, as well as 1 abstract. These publications showed sustained engagement with biomedical research rather than a limited or isolated contribution. We also discussed how several of the client’s publications had been cited at unusually strong rates for their fields and publication years, which helped demonstrate that other researchers had found the work useful in advancing their own studies.
At the time of filing, the client’s published work had received 560 citations. We did not present this number as automatically sufficient on its own. Instead, we explained that citations are meaningful because they reflect independent reliance by other scholars. In this case, the citation record helped show that the client’s findings had influenced research involving biomolecule characterization, disease-related mechanisms, antimicrobial strategies, and preventive biomedical approaches. The client had also completed at least 6 peer reviews, further supporting the argument that journals and research venues recognized the client’s expertise enough to rely on the client’s judgment in evaluating other scholars’ work.
The petition also addressed the third NIW prong by showing why waiving the job offer and labor certification requirements would benefit the United States. We emphasized that the client’s research background, publication record, citation impact, peer-review activity, and future research plans formed a coherent pattern of contribution in a field tied to public health and biotechnology. Rather than focusing only on credentials, we framed the case around how the client’s expertise could continue supporting disease treatment, prevention, and biomedical innovation in the United States.
