On May 10th, 2025, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a PhD. Student in the Field of Electrical Engineering (Approval Notice).

General Field: Electrical Engineering

Position at the Time of Case Filing: PhD Student

Country of Origin: Bangladesh

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Pennsylvania

Approval Notice Date: May 10th, 2025

Processing Time: 1 year, 6 months, 15 days

Case Summary:

At North America Immigration Law Group, we are proud to share the successful outcome of a National Interest Waiver (NIW) petition for a student from Bangladesh, whose case exemplifies both resilience and the importance of thorough legal advocacy. His petition was approved after 1 year, 6 months, 15 days, despite receiving an RFE.

The RFE response was submitted before the February 10, 2025, deadline; however, USCIS mistakenly denied the petition on February 13, 2025, due to abandonment. We subsequently filed a Form I-290B motion to reopen, and the case was ultimately approved.

Our client’s proposed endeavor focuses on the development and characterization of novel dielectric materials to support the advancement of power electronics, electric machines, and motor drive technologies. Currently conducting research in the U.S., he aims to create sustainable insulation systems that improve energy efficiency and grid reliability while reducing environmental impact.

To support his petition, we highlighted:

Publications and Citations: He has authored 4 peer-reviewed journal articles and 13 conference papers, with a total of 53 citations. At least 3 of his papers rank among the top 10–20% most cited in engineering for their publication years.

Peer Review Contributions: He has completed 11 peer reviews for prestigious electrical engineering conferences.

Significance and Impact: His work on electret-based insulation and nonlinear resistive field grading (NLRFG) composites has been adopted by researchers and practitioners globally. His findings have been applied in shipboard power systems, electric aircraft, and high-voltage grid solutions.

To strengthen the petition, we also included 2 compelling letters of recommendation from prominent experts in electrical engineering. These letters highlighted the originality, influence, and national relevance of his research. One recommender noted:

“In sum, considering the remarkable impact of his works in dielectric materials and their ramifications in high voltage technologies, [Client] is an unparalleled individual in the field. It is assured that his continued endeavors in this space are intrinsic to the proliferation and sustainability of electric vehicles and other high-powered technologies.”

Thanks to the client’s proven impact and our strategic filing, USCIS ultimately granted NIW approval. We’re honored to have represented this talented researcher and look forward to his continued contributions to the future of sustainable energy infrastructure in the U.S.
