Success Stories: A Chinese Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow in Toxicology Comes to NAILG for NIW Approval and Gets Confirmation in Less Than 3 Months

On April 27th, 2022, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow in the Field of Toxicology (Approval Notice).

General Field: Toxicology

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow

Country of Origin: China

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Maryland

Approval Notice Date: April 27th, 2022

Processing Time: 2 months, 16 days

Case Summary:

When an expert in the field of toxicology from China came to us seeking help with his NIW (National Interest Waiver) application, we made sure to get him the approval without any delays. Thanks to our experienced team at NAILG, we could obtain the approval only 2 months and 16 days from filing. We made this possible by going through his documentary records and picking out the relevant information for use in his petition letter. Our team discovered the following in the process:

  • His proposed endeavor was to use his extensive experience with data-driven approaches and machine-learning predictive models to develop novel tools for identifying harmful environmental chemicals and screening chemical compounds.
  • His research is of great importance because it reveals the impact of carcinogen exposure on the human body. Given that cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, identifying and reducing carcinogen exposure is of vital importance to human health.
  • His various research projects on toxicity have demonstrated cellular responses to varying degrees of toxin exposure, revealed the molecular mechanisms by which toxin exposure contributes to cancer, among other conditions, and provided a reliable method for measuring the safety of environmental chemicals, mitigating both the risk and the impact of exposure to environmental carcinogens. This is why one of his 4 recommenders said:

“[The client’s] research is critically important as it provides valuable information and characterizes the mechanisms by which cadmium induces toxicity in the body and affects male reproductivity. His work on cadmium further informs us of the risks associated with cadmium exposure which is important for developing regulations to mitigate its impact on both occupational and environmental scales.”

At the same time, due to its clear national importance, his research has in fact been supported with funding from the National Toxicology Program (NTP), the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) at the National Institutes of Health. He has also completed at least 30 reviews to date and his research has resulted in 34 peer-reviewed journal articles (7 of them first-authored). These publications have been cited a total of 494 times according to Google Scholar, thereby demonstrating that these publications are widely recognized and relied upon in the field of toxicology.

Furthermore, we found and added evidence of his major funding sources namely the NTP, the NIEHS, the EPA, the NCATS, and the NSFC. These reasons also add to the fact that he has some very valuable expert testimonials such as the following:

“Due to both the pervasive prevalence of dioxin in the United States coupled with the extremely high rates of cancer in this nation, it is imperative to gain a better understanding of the role dioxin plays in tumor growth, irregular cell development, and carcinogenesis. With 1,898,160 new cancer cases and 608,570 cancer-related deaths estimated to occur in 2021 in the United States, the importance of Dr. Xu’s work cannot be overstated. As such, Dr. Xu’s ongoing research is intrinsically valuable to not only the scientific community but to environmental and public health in the United States at large.”

Thus, when the approval came through, our team was very happy to share the news with him. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
